With an unexpected storm pouring down rain, a few of our more adventurous members drove to Newcastle on Saturday, May 2, 2009 for a tour of Lakes Nursery. They have a beautiful setting with the largest selection of Japanese Maples in Northern California along with over 60 vanities of Bamboos. The rain drops on the maples and other plants were a treat for our eyes. Faye Zwackkenberg, who spoke at our April SPPC meeting, was our guide through the nursery explaining the many different maples, bamboos and their requirements. The selection and colors are wonderful and although the rains kept us under our umbrellas, it did not stop any from making their purchases. I highly recommend Lakes Nursery for an outing - it is truly a destination place with its lovely Japanese Gardens and 28,000 gallon Koi pond.
Our Vendor Sale was held on Saturday, March 21, 2009.It featured unusual plants and garden
treasures.Fifteen vendors participated
this year displaying various items including Herbs, Aquatic plants,
Mediterranean & California native plants, handmade birdhouses, pottery,
metal items for the yard, succulents, vermiculture, various shrubs, perennials,

related books and magazines.

For Life".
The sale was a success even though we had to "take
cover" for a little while when it decided to sprinkle on us.
