Sycamore Roots
My home was built in
1928 and I am its third owner.I inherited my backyard in 2005.It was minimally useable due to the various
different elevations (4) and several above ground roots from a beautiful old
Sycamore tree. The yard was done in
2-phases.Phase I included the decking
and drainage system and "sleeping room".Phase II was the remainder of hardscaping - including the potting
shed/storage unit, fountains and the plants. Now the yard is more useable and has given me the space that I
needed.Designed by Susan Silva -
Landscape by Alpine Terrace.
The old Sycamore tree has several roots that had 'escaped' and the original brick planter around the tree had been incorporated into its trunk. Here are some of the many levels that I was dealing with....
In the far right corner of the yard (under the Blue Spruce) was an old fish pond made from various sizes of rocks. The yard also had an old Barbeque pit that hadn't been used in years.
Some of the many levels
and yet more levels....
Lots of weeds and left overs
All the existing pavers had to be removed because of drainage issues.
Now 3 separate areas: fire pit/dining/relaxing & sleeping
